Intro
Hey guys welcome back today we're going to be talking about which paint should you choose when you're beginning your project. Today I want to tell you which one I use which one I recommend for diy-ers and professionals and which ones I refuse to use. Let's talk about each product. First, I'd like to have a discussion about Behr Paint I have a quick testimonial from someone who actually used bear paint I'd like you to watch this video and take it very seriously I use Behr paint.
The Interview
Once about uh oh gosh it has to be three or four years ago now I went into Home
Depot to get a brush honestly and next thing you know I'm walking out with Corgi islands and behr I think I ended up doing three coats of paint and to this day the sheen haunts me...I can't... I moved I couldn't even live I'm I'm sorry I can't I can't keep talking about
this...behr paint.
Why Shouldn't You Pick Behr
I do want to talk why I want to take bare paint out of the running and why I wouldn't use this product. Mainly it's for the workability very thick paint hard to work with the end outcome is it worth the amount of work you're going to put in. You're going to have difficulty moving the product and sometimes it's just one of those things where if you're doing this and it's not your bread and butter it's not your everyday job you want something that's going to be convenient for you and simple to use. Behr just has to go out of the running when we bring up this conversation of paint I would either go Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore and I'm going to tell you why.
Why You Should Pick Sherwin Williams
First, let's talk about Sherwin-Williams and when you look across the spectrum of what I have here this is actually the paint I use every day just use this on a project the other week using this on a project today and we use this on our trim. All three of these products are really when I walk into the store for an interior paint job are going to be what I purchase I'll include these in the description below so if you want to purchase Sherwin-Williams you have the go-to products.
ProMar (Ceilings)
Now promar ceiling paint, it's great because it's very easy to work with it's a little bit thinner and when you're finished your ceiling is a dead flat and that's what you want you don't want any type of shine on the ceiling because as you look across your ceiling if your window may be shining in you don't want to see any imperfections and the flat paint really takes that away.
Duration (Walls)
Duration matte finish is a great wall paint I'm not going to tell you this is a true matte finish it's got a little bit more shine so think of this more of like an eggshell so if you have kids this is perfect great washability and I love the workability of this product.
Emerald (Trim)
Then finally the trim paint I like this trim paint if you're a diyer because it's a little thicker and as you apply it to your trim or your wood moldings around your house it's not going to want to drip on you. It's got a good grab dries quick there's no odor it's low VOC. It's a very workable product and I think all three of these products are workable for the diyer.
If you you're going to be using Sherwin-Williams we're going to use promar ceiling paint for your ceilings we're going to use duration matte finish for your walls and we're going to use Emerald urethane satin for your trim.
Why You Should Pick Benjamin Moore
If Benjamin Moore is a little more convenient for you or if you live more towards the South you're going to have more Benjamin more stores available. This is a good product but I
would tell you that it's a little bit more difficult to work with the end outcome is going to be the best. I think it's probably the best finish and it's my go-to when I'm in high-end homes but it is a little harder to work with so if you're on the professional end of the spectrum go Benjamin Moore. If you're DIY obviously we talked about the Sherwin-Williams these are my go-to products. If you're going to choose Benjamin Moore first of all you're going to be looking at your trim paint which is Advanced satin.
Advance (Trim)
I'm going to pause there and I'm going to let you know just be careful when you're using this product it is a little thinner and as you're brushing if you put too much you will get drips so you have to control this product. It's more of a two coat product than this trying to get one finished product on your on your trim so most people because you're going white
to white will paint one coat of trim paint. This one's kind of a two coater because you got to go a little thin okay.
Ben (Walls)
We're going to go to Ben eggshell for the walls this is a great product I would say this is very workable and convenient for the diy-er but at the end of the day if we're talking entirety of package Benjamin Moore is a little more difficult but their wall paint is great. Ben eggshell, I love the Finish it's washable it's strong and it's got great coverage so if you're doing a deep color, like a blue or in the greens, this is a great product to choose.
Ultra Spec 500 (Trim)
Then for my ceiling, Ultra spec flat Benjamin Moore does have a designated ceiling paint but it is ridiculously expensive. It's like 45-50 bucks a gallon. You don't need to spend 45 or 50 a gallon on your ceiling as long as your paint is flat and it's going to cover well that's what you're going to need. So I'm going to suggest you to use ultra spec flat for your
ceilings. Now if you're going to choose these Benjamin more just a reminder it is a little bit more difficult to work with but the end outcome I believe is a better appearance a better look okay. So if you're a professional I want you going Benjamin Moore, if you are a diyer
I want you going Sherwin-Williams. I will say I am endorsing both of these products. Everything you see on this table is something that I use on an everyday basis depending on my project and what I'm doing, where I am, what the customer wants. They all have different results for what I'm looking to do but I do recommend every single one of these products up here so you can't go wrong. But just remember to evaluate your project and
what's going to work best for you. If you're DIY just remember Sherwin-Williams, if you're a
professional always Benjamin Moore.
